Game Grenade is where you can hear about everything game related: reviews, tutorials, news, fan-fiction, and just plain fun. Here we'll be covering today's best sellers as well as decade old classics.
Today the people over at Nintendo finally dropped a date and price on their latest game console, the Wii U. The official announcement of the much anticipated console has cleared up some rumors, and sparked some new ones. Today we're here to talk about it all.
The official release date has finally been made being November 18th in America, and other dates in other places like Japan and such. The price being $299 for the regular device and $350 for the deluxe version which is a black console compared to white, and will have a charging stand, and game stand, and another stand for the console itself. Personally, I believe this deluxe deal is overrated.
But don't go throwing your clunky old Wii yet. There is a speculated major issue with the Wii U, that being that another tablet/gamepad could potentially cost half the amount of the console itself. That sounds like a lot of money for a little ol' tablet.
There is also a couple new things Nintendo is implementing. One of them is TVii which is basically a DVR on this Wii U. You can also stream things like Netflix and Hulu Plus on this bad boy. Another thing Nintendo is adding is a thing called the Miiverse. They had something like that on the Wii but I don't think it ever got anywhere. The Miiverse is Nintendo's attempt to bring a social networking platform into the world of gaming where users can share games, communicate with their friends, and most importantly, boast achievements.
And it's definitely not anything like what we've ever seen before with Xbox Live or whatever that thing on PlayStation was.
The launch titles are looking pretty awesome if you ask me though. We've got a new Super Mario Bros. coming out, we have Nintendo Land which is basically Thrillville, Lego City Undercover (Grand Theft Auto in Lego), and ZombiU which I am very excited to see. I love zombies, and I think they will really be able to incorporate this game pad into the game with stats, and maps, and weaponry and such.
But I think this is one of those console's that we will just have to wait and see. It's a pretty picture but it's going to be hard to pull the Wii's reputation out from the gutter. Nintendo has been classified for casual gamers and the Wii U, I believe, is an attempt to break that a little bit. Especially with titles like ZombiU. But I don't think you should be throwing out your Wii anytime soon.
We'll just have to wait until November 18th!
